The 2018 New Jersey Tree Climbing Competition was in many ways a true family gathering.
The competition was organized by the New Jersey Arborists ISA Chapter at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Twenty five climbers from as far as North Carolina and New York, as well as resident New Jersey state competitors, descended upon the trees of the university campus to display their skills as modern, professional arborists. Men and women, young and old, came together in the name of promoting progressive arboriculture practices, safety and strengthening the ever-so-tightly knit community of tree climbers.
Besides a spectacular show of arboriculture acrobatics, the competition embodied a deep rooted tradition shared amongst colleagues, friends, fathers, sons and daughters.
To be a part of something greater than yourself is a gift, and to share that experience with friends, family and colleagues is the way in which many hearts beat as one.
