What does it take to be inspired, and what does it take to stay inspired? As arborists, many of us have different forms of expression, and different sources of inspiration. I’ve always been fascinated by the people around me in the the tree care industry; from professors and researchers to crane operators to landscape managers to climbers like myself. The people have always been my inspiration and motivation. Going to symposiums and climbing competitions and seminars and even working on the road with different firms offers a way to reinvent myself as an arborist all the time, and to bring to my own marketplace something new and something relevant every time I return. It’s good business.
Of course documenting my experiences has always been a part of my professional career. I started blogging a long time ago in college as a way to practice writing and as a way to share my adventures with readers. This is just a new format really. So I’ve reinvented my blog a bit in order to dial in on a new focus: keeping arborists inspired. I plan on doing that by illustrating all avenues of the trade. Philosophy, craft, and business are themes I’ve really been hovering around lately. My love for climbing and competition will always bleed through I’m sure. And my yearning for adventure. Hopefully I can keep things well rounded, as arboriculture itself offers so many fascinating niches.
I read a lot, and I try to work as much as I can. Many times my writing is a response to either what I’m reading or what current project I’m working on as a contracting arborist. This keeps things relevant for me and for the readers out there. I think there are many arborists that operate worldwide and still struggle with the same everyday problems. Troubleshooting is sometimes ninety percent of the task in tree work. Investigation is a critical part the the arborist profession.
Sharing information that is well researched is another goal of mine. I’ll offer links and sources whenever it’s applicable, share current book information and of course photos and videos when I can too. I’m very new to the website management process, so I’ll be learning as I go, as everyone does. Many times the look of the layout will change, but hopefully I can maintain a clarity that is appealing.
This is really about arborists and what we do. This is the life we love, the arb life.
