I’ve been dreaming up some new aerial rescue scenarios for the modern competitive climbers out there.
Scenario 1: 80 Degrees Fahrenheit
The climber was in the tree recording a boomerang on their Instagram account when they slipped on some lichen, taking a violent swing and injuring their left arm and rib cage. They are conscious, but are having trouble breathing and can’t make it down.
Scenario 2: 65 Degrees Fahrenheit
While ascending on a basal anchored system, the climber was listening to a popular podcast on their SENA bluetooth communications unit when a piece of deadwood broke above them, sliding down their access line and striking them in the head. The climber is unconscious, and suspended on mechanical ascenders unable to come out of the tree.
Scenario 3: 73 Degrees Fahrenheit
While removing a large scaffold limb near electrical utility lines, the climber took one hand off their chainsaw while cutting to adjust their GoPro camera. The climber lost control of the saw and was cut from the kickback on their right arm. The climber is unable to stop the bleeding and can’t make it down to the ground.
“Everyone stop work, there’s been an emergency, call EMS…”
